The paint is designed to function best when your boat does not remain stationary for long periods of time, so typically, it was used as a fuel-saving, slippery-bottom solution for tankers. Seeing as the ferry’s will be moving regularly, the Prop folks decided to give this bottom paint a shot.
The helpful team at AkzoNobel was available to help ensure the technicians at KKMI were properly trained to apply the paint. There were very specific guidelines as to the air temperature during application, the times between coatings, and the thickness at which it was applied. KKMI purchased a new high powered paint spray pump that will now be available for future applications.
It came out looking incredible. Paint supplier and customer were pleased with the result.
